Sunscreen is an essential part of summer days – it reliably protects your skin from the sun but can leave unpleasant stains on your clothes. These stains are not always easy to remove with regular washing. Fortunately, there are simple and effective ways to deal with them.
How to Wash Sunscreen: Step by Step
- Before you put the clothing into the washing machine, try to remove as much of the cream as possible. Use a paper towel and gently press it to absorb the cream. Avoid rubbing, as this could push the cream deeper into the fibres.
- Soak the affected part of the clothing in cold water and apply a small amount of liquid detergent, baking soda, or dish soap to the stain. Gently massage it in and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
- Then, wash the clothing at a low temperature (up to 30 °C). Use a regular detergent suitable for the specific fabric type. Avoid washing at higher temperatures – heat can permanently “set” the stain into the fabric.
- If the stain is still visible, repeat the cycle. Never put the clothing in the dryer before the stain is completely removed.
Bonus Tip: Home Remedies
- Vinegar + Baking Soda: Make a paste and apply it directly to the stain.
- Alcohol: Helps break down the oily components of sunscreen.
- Lemon Juice: Works as a natural bleach for white clothing.
